BMT sponsor Bath-based British wheelchair fencer Piers Gilliver
BMT Hi-Q Sigma is proud to announce that, together with our Bath-based sister companies, BMT Defence Services Ltd, BMT Reliability Consultants Ltd and BMT Isis, we will be sponsoring Piers Gilliver in 2016.
Piers is a young wheelchair fencer who really is one to watch! With three World Cup gold medals and a silver at last year's World Championships, Piers (21) is currently ranked No 1 in the world in men’s Cat A Epee and is seen as a potential star of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. We are delighted to be sponsoring local talent in what promises to be an exciting year for him and for British sport.
piers gilliver article 1Based at the University of Bath’s world-leading Sports Training Village, Piers hopes to compete in three World Cups this year - Hungary in February, followed by Canada and Poland, and then the European Championships in Italy. Success in these competitions will bring his hopes of
qualification for Rio this summer even closer.
BMT Hi-Q Sigma has strong links with the University and this new sponsorship reinforces our commitment to encourage the ‘brightest and the best’ from our local community. Simon Gould, Managing Director, outlined our motivation for sponsoring Piers:
“This sponsorship strengthens our links with the university and complements our ongoing work with the School of Management. The hard work, determination and dedication shown by Piers and his support team echoes our own company values. I hope this close involvement with an elite sportsman will encourage our own young people in their drive for excellence and show what collaborative team working can bring about."
Piers commented: “It is difficult to express in words how grateful I am to my new sponsors, BMT, for their support at this crucial time. I am excited to have them on board and joining me on my ‘Road-to-Rio’ journey. This financial support has enabled me to fund additional coaching in the lead-up to The Games, purchase new equipment and even organise an additional training camp – all of which make a significant difference and, importantly, help me to keep the Paralympic Gold Medal in my sights!"
Piers Martin, Performance Director for the British Disabled Fencing Association, added: “We are very grateful to two Bath-based companies, BMT and Gradwell Communications, for supporting Piers Gilliver in his quest for Paralympic gold in Rio later this year. This boost in funding, along with the support he and the Disability Fencing Programme receives from UK Sport and the National Lottery, will undoubtedly help Piers to maintain his No.1 World Ranking and hopefully increase the performance gap between himself and his closest rivals.”
